Gear for Pet-Friendly Adventures: Don’t Forget the Dog!
·

Bringing your furry friend on the trail or into the backcountry? Awesome. But just like you, your dog needs the right gear to stay safe, comfy, and happy outdoors. Here’s what to pack for pet-friendly adventures:
1. Dog Backpack
Let them carry their own food and water (within safe limits).
- Look for adjustable straps, padded harness, and secure fit
- Brands: Ruffwear, Kurgo, Mountainsmith
2. Collapsible Bowls
- Silicone or fabric bowls pack flat and are great for food + water
- Hydration is key — bring extra water on hot days
3. Sleeping Gear
- A dog sleeping pad or small foam mat
- Blanket or insulated jacket for cold nights
- Tent sharing? Bring a dog towel for muddy paws
4. Leash System
- Hands-free leash or belt leash for hiking
- Tie-out cable or long leash for camp use
5. Dog Boots (Optional)
Protect paws from hot sand, sharp rocks, or snow
- Test at home — not all dogs tolerate them
6. Safety & ID
- Reflective harness/collar and tag
- Microchip + current photos
- Dog-specific first aid items (tick remover, paw balm, vet info)
Extras
- Poop bags (always pack it out!)
- Treats and chews
- A toy or ball for camp play
Adventuring with your dog takes extra prep — but the tail wags, trail joy, and shared sunsets are always worth it.
